Project Updates

January 2022

Thanks to our funding and the local community members hard work, a full volleyball court has been built and already is the most popular sport in the area. Soccer is the most popular sport in the country but volleyball must be a close second. We are now looking to further expand the sports area to include a larger sports center that would allow covered sports including basketball and tennis. In addition to providing a place for sports, this center will ideally also act an event or civic center.

September 2021

As two of our major initiatives are health and education, we love when we can combine them both to make an impact in the community. We are supporting the local Drake Bay Sports Committee (Comité de deportes Bahía Drake) to develop a soccer school for Drake Bay and the surrounding area for boys and girls of any age. Soccer is a major part of entertainment and health in many Latin American countries. Unfortunately, in Drake Bay, they have not had the resources to develop a great soccer program... until now! We are excited about providing a healthy way for kids to learn the importance of good health, discipline, and working together to achieve a goal.

Our initial goal is to establish the soccer school, but we are not limiting ourselves to soccer. The goal is to create and support programs for volleyball, outdoor fitness, running, and any other sports that the community and we determine to be valuable.

June 2021

For rural areas in Costa Rica, there is nothing more exciting than the events at the local soccer field. A common joke in Costa Rica says that a town isn't a town until the soccer field is built. The town of Drake Bay heavily relies on tourism for work. During 2020, most people struggled to find work or activities to keep them engaged with the community.

In past years, the locals of Drake Bay have worked hard to keep their soccer field in good condition, however, they haven't been able to find the funds to keep their old vendor kiosk operating. The existing vendor kiosk lacks a proper roof, floor and overall structural support.

In order to build a stronger community, we are working with the local Drake Bay District Sports Committee (Comité Distrital de Deportes de Bahía Drake) to improve the vendor kiosk at the main soccer field in the area. Our foundation will be providing all the materials needed and the local sports committee will work with volunteers to help build the vendor kiosk. The new vendor kiosk will be used by the locals to generate revenue during soccer games and other events. Their goal is to generate funds to improve the existing soccer field, sponsor soccer games and sport teams, promote youth sports throughout the Drake Bay district (an area of about 2,000 people). The Drake Bay District Sports Committee is responsible for all the sports in the towns of El Progreso, Los Angeles, Bahia Drake, Los Planes y Playa Rincon.
